Hester grew up dancing with her sisters and best friends in the international fitness arena, performing at the MTV Europe awards at the tender age of 14. She was part of the City Street Steppers who frequented the stage at the Hackney Empire and Brix Theatre's Cabarave, with Capital FM at the Capital FM Extravaganza exhibition and road show, alongside the much loved Roy Castle on his Tour of Hope, and appeared on UK LIving, CCTV and Sky One broadcast their very own workout for a whole year! She was mentored and managed by her fitness entrepreneur mother Lydia Campbell. The young self-choreographed dancers were finalists at the BT Dance for Youth competition in 1995. They were the only street dance troupe!
Dancing, film-making, painting, singing, acting and creative writing form Hester's background, which enables her to appreciate and incorporate a vast array of art forms in their historical context, producing thoughtful, enriched live art performances.
Hester trained to be a circus aerialist in 2012 . She completed a full time foundation course in Circus Arts with Aircraft Circus at the Hangar Arts Trust. She advanced quickly and soon began teaching on the youth circus program. She was invited to join the Aircraft Circus Professional Company in September 2012. Her performance work includes Corde Lisse, Static Trapeze and Fire Dance solos at the Foundation Course Cabaret Spring 2012, The Greenwich Summer Festival July 2012, The Urban Circus October 2012, Belle Epoque Party October 2012, The Adrienne Campbell Memorial Celebration November 2012 and the Greenwich Circus Festival December 2012.
Prior to Circus training Hester studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, then The Arts Institute at Bournemouth obtaining a BA (Hons) in Film and Animation Production, specialised in Directing. She worked as assistant to acclaimed British film director Sally Potter, production assistant on the feature film 'YES' produced by Adventure Pictures. Hester was inspired by Sally Potter to pursue a career dance, and she enrolled in The Place Evening School. A fast learner, Hester took her training into her own hands. Aged 22 she wasted no time and attended four classes a day at Pineapple Dance studios: Ballet, Jazz, Street Dance and Yoga. She knew she needed further training and was accepted to the Dance Performance Diploma programme at Birkbeck College, University of London. She progressed from this one-year part time evening course to full time dance training at Lewisham College. This catapulted her further and she was accepted at the mature age of 25 to Laban. She completed 3 years professional training obtaining BA (Hons) Dance Theatre. In 2008 Hester was elected Students' Union President and after graduating began working tirelessly on growing the Students' Union. She also accepted a busary to study Msc Dance Science at Laban and began this full time Masters along side teaching fitness, dance and full filling her role on the Union. Something had to give. When a crisis in her personal life tipped the balance Hester deferred her Masters degree and began performing. Her credits in 2009 include Betty Blue in Moulin Blue, Le Chat Blanc in L'Enfant et les Sortileges, and company member of Lapsus Corpi Performance Group, touring London and South East with the evening length work Show Real.
In May 2009 Hester became pregnant, continued to perform and teach, and in February 2010 gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Wren. 5 weeks after giving birth ,The Royal Opera House invited Hester to audition for La Traviata, and much to her surprise Hester joined the company in 2010 with a remarkable season of two runs at Covent Garden and a tour to Japan, the first Royal Opera tour to Japan in 16 years. Hester was invited back for the 2011-2012 season and remarkably her picture appeared on all the press material for La Traviata. As her opera contract ended, one ambition full-filled, Hester seized the opportunity to full fill her second ambition since her decision to dance professionally, to become an aerialist.
